To Khonkaen

March 13,2013
Having learned that the sky train doesn't go to Nakorn Chai Air bus station, I opt for a taxi there with plenty of time to allow for traffic. As is becoming more common, the blockage to the tollway is worse than the surface streets, so I put away my 45B and start a real conversation with the driver, Peter, whose English is was better than my Thai. We talk about family, would I ever consider living in Thailand, taking care of elders, pollution, succession, volunteering, gardening and the serenity prayer. He sees an old lady peddling jasmine leis on the roadside. His instinct is to help her and add a pleasant smell to his cab. Then he turns and gives it to me. I am touched and flattered, I think I must be in Hawaii ;-) It is a lovely gesture
and makes the six hour bus ride sweet smelling.
