Most extraordinary good fortune today! The Canadian couple from Pyin O Lwin and I met over breakfast and decided to go have a look at the last Shan princes' palace, having read that the caretaker, and nephew of the prince, Donald had been jailed in 2005


for showing it to foreigners, we figured the best we'd get would be a peek through the fence.
An intimidating mutt kept barking his disapproval of us. Since it looked sickly and none of us are rabies risk takers, we opted to follow the fence around through the brush and discovered another gate. Then a woman with a key came walking from the house towards the gate. We couldn't believe our good fortune!
Sao Sarm Hpong, Donald's wife, greeted us warmly and invited us to first view the gardens, swimming pool, and prayer building and then join her in the parlor.
