A bit of sadness in concluding this leg of the trip. In the cab on Pyay Road, a main N/S route, I watched two men carry a 50lb bag of sand one block to dump in a hole for curb/sidewalk construction and walk back to do it again for I know not how many times. A little further up towards the airport, a back hoe (only the fifth or sixth piece of big machinery I've seen in country) was digging a trench. This country has so many challenges ahead of it. This and the need for step up transformers and generators mirror in part what Thailand was like 45 years ago.
Yesterday ( 3/10) got in some sightseeing starting with Ang San's home. As father of his country its now a museum. Formerly open only to foreigners at $5, its now 300kjat and free to the folks who admire and love him and his daughter. A simple two story wooden house, with a turret where the prayer room was located. Two big bedrooms, one for all the kids (three), and a library full of many books in English. I bought a book about him with bits written by colleagues, he wasn't always
admired and loved.
There was one more five star pagoda to see, this one held a Buddha hair and had a crowded labyrinth of narrow tunnels, guilders walls and cases full of more Buddha images. I somehow didn't get the least bit claustrophobic. Found my rat Buddha to douse with water for good fortune at yet another place.
Another beer at a popular expat watering hole, a summer roll and some wifi time at Trader. I had just enough for a cab ride back to toYoma 2. I was cutting it pretty close with 6000kjat left for airport cab. Then I was reminded of the phone bill from my futile attempts to find better digs. The airport. Cabby was willing to take me this A M for 4500, the same I'd paid coming in.
