Sudang and I are game for a little adventure to Mt. Popa. Mary wisely declines, knowing it will involve lots of climbing. Tandar, the morning "guide" arranges for transport, the same pick-up now with a girl friend and the drivers family. She's all dressed up for the outing, we're paying for it all of course, but it makes it feel like a family affair.

The climb into cooler weather feels good. Tandar,as a mother of twins has a particular affinity for Mae Wuna, the dominant "nat" - nature spirit of Mt Popa. Here she is with hubby who was a servant to the king who began the temple building in Bagan, and her twin sons.

Though the walkway was covered, monkeys roamed freely.

Though the stairway is tiled and even swept in places, walking barefoot around monkey poop and urine, detracts from the climb.

But the view gets better and the air cooler as we go.
