Mekong Delta

It took over an hour and a half to clear the smog zone that is Sai Gon, before getting onto a long tail boat to cruise one of the nine dragons (outlets) of the mighty Mekong.

Many commercial wholesale boats laden with a single item, rambutans, or jicama, or watermelon; indicated by the item on a bamboo pole on the bow.

Ferries carry passengers and bike back and forth the numerous inlets, though there are plenty of bridges for the major rivers.

We took a little spin in a hand paddled boat as well, this one en route to a folk music presentation

The area is know for its tropical fruits, longon, jack fruit, bananas, pineapples and watermelon,as well as Champu dropping from the trees all around us.

For lunch we had the famous elephant ear fish wrapped in rce paper with mint and other greens, rolled up like a cigar and dipped in ginger/chili/sweet sauce. Yummy

I managed not to get sun burned with all those hours on the water, and am grateful for TJ's sunblock 50.

  1. The red fruits on the tree in front of your face look intriguing. I don't think I've seen those before. I'll have to remember to ask you about what they are when you return!
