Ubon

Jamlong met me at the train

And off we went to Prajuab's ancient house on the Mon River

It hurts her back to sit or walk for long. She is comfortable horizontal. When I lived here she had a shop in town and befriended all the Peace Corps Volunteers. She's a gentle, kind, sinple, thoughtful person with an enduring sense of wonder mostly at the natural world and artistry of fine craftsmanship.
She tires easily so we didn't stay long. her little dog had other ideas in mind: he stole one of Jamlong's shoes. We al searched the yard to no avail. P kept the other shoe to ask the village kids to find its mate. After we left she spoke to the dog about it showing her the shoe, the four legged went off quickly and returned with its mate!
My lodging are an interesting blend of Thai wilderness, with clunky big teak slab furniture, rocks and botanicals. Wine farm resort, has no wine, but a stream full of fish meandering among the little cottage rooms.

They also raise golden retrievers. Swimming pool wonderfully refreshing.

Northeast (Isaan) food specialties include barbequed chicken, sticky rice, papaya salad, and laap ( a ground meat dish with chilis, lime and other goodies)
I attempted yesterday to indulge in all of them. Classic case of eyes being bigger than my stomach. Oh and did I mention chilis...I've got a long way to go before I can eat foods as hot as I used to....but I'm definitely working on it,;-)
