Floating Market

Watching the sun rise as we head to our covered boat to catch sight of the morning market.

Happy campers we even at this hour.

Hundreds of boats large and small bustle around, buying, selling greeting the day.

The ever present bamboo banners announcing their wares.
Our boatman so comfortable and familiar with the route.

Fortunately the young people driving scooters and motorcycles are not so casual, especially those with the entire family aboard.
Phong Diem a smaller market, more retail.

In the west we bury petrol tanks, not on the river!

We've seen tombs in rice fields, tombs at restaurants, in back yards, never wanting ancestors to be too faraway, the people want easy access to ask for help in all situations. Here are some of the more elaborate coffins.

Construction materials abound.

And combining materials is all the better. Tree trunks branches and "I " beams!

The "carbon footprint" part of me, seeing all the little boats designed for a dozen bodies nod carrying only two, thinks we ought to be joining forces with fellow travelers. Then I think about how many mouths get fed from each cruise, and if feels alright, besides our boatman uses the current down stream and putts along the shore heading back, using his fuel efficiently.
